5 Year Hardy Plant Guarantee - Terms & Conditons
At Ruxley Manor, our aim is to offer the best quality plants you can find anywhere, and we want you to succeed with your plants and come back for more.
As a GCA member we are required to guarantee all our hardy plants for 2 years, we have however chosen to offer a 5 Year Guarantee. If one of our plants should fail to establish within this period we will give you a credit note for the original price paid, subject to the conditions below.
If your plant has a problem, initially please call our plant experts on 0208 300 0084 or email plants@ruxley-manor.co.uk with your receipt number or a copy of the receipt, along with photographs of the plant. We can then advise you on the next steps. Alternatively, bring in some leaves and photos when you next visit and we can advise you face to face.
Following the above steps could potentially help prevent a perfectly good plant being dug up unnecessarily - when it may actually have only needed additional time to establish or other appropriate action. Upon review and discussion, If we advise you that the plant needs to be brought back instore, you will also be asked to produce your receipt and your plant label together with the failed plant when returning the it.
This guarantee is subject to the plant having been correctly planted and cared for, we are always happy to give advice before and after your purchase, especially if you see something happening to your plants that seems odd.
Please note, there are some exceptions and scenarios where the guarantee would not be applicable and does not cover - in particular;
- Physical damage to a plant that is beyond our control e.g. drying out, sun scorch, waterlogging, damage caused by rabbits or mechanical damage is excluded.
- Plants failing due to neglect e.g. insufficient water during dry weather are excluded.
- Plants must have been planted according to our planting guide see below. They are also available via QR codes situated across our instore plant department or from either our Customer Service or Plant Information desks.
Planting Guide
To be fully compliant with our 5 year Guarantee please ensure our planting guidelines are fully adhered to. When followed correctly, they will ensure your plant has the best chance of thriving in your home
- Select a pot that allows room for growth, this will vary depending on the vigour of the plant
- Use pot feet, a pot caddy or place on gravel to ensure that water can leave the drainage hole unimpeded
- Add a good quality compost (John Innes or a compost recommended for containers) over a layer of good drainage material like gravel or rocks and firm (good drainage is essential for healthy root growth)
- Soak the plant to ensure the compost is fully wetted
- Remove the grower pot that the plant was purchase in
- Place the plant in the center, just below the rim – or lower if using a gravel or bark mulch (the compost will ‘slump’ and settle over time, lowering the level in the container)
- Backfill with compost, firming but not compacting as you go
- Adding a mulch (for instance bark chippings or composted bark) reduces stress and reduces evaporation
- Water the plant in to settle it in, and water as needed from then onwards
- Dig a hole twice the width and a little deeper than the size of the pot
- Loosen compacted soil in the bottom and side of the planting hole
- Mix some planting compost in with your garden soil
- Add drainage material if your soil does not drain well or the plant needs sharper drainage
- Set the plant in the centre of the hole and rotate it to show its best side
- Backfill, firm and water in as with growing in pots
Additional Considerations
- We will guarantee a plant to its natural tolerance of cold weather based on an average winter - please bare in mind that young plants may need more protection than established plants.
- Extreme weather conditions may invalidate the guarantee on plants which are borderline hardy e.g. Acacia, Callistemon, Pittosporum, mediterranean plants & Tree Ferns.
- We will guarantee a plant for its natural lifespan, in the case of shorter lived plants such as Nepeta, Echinacea, Lupin, Heuchera & Delphinium this will not be our usual 5 years.
- All bedding plants, annuals (such as Impatiens), tender perennials (such as Fuchsia & Gazania), tropicals (such as Bougainvillea and Mandevilla) and houseplants are excluded from this guarantee.
- Your statutory rights are not affected or altered by this guarantee.
